The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the option to challenge specific decisions from the official, mirroring the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a year after the All England Club rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine other situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
Case in Point
An illustrative case occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a ball was out or in.
In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
