Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
